DESCRIPTION:Randall Thompson Requiem \nNYCHORAL presents the East Coast premiere of an arrangement for double chorus and double string orchestra of Randall Thompson’s Requiem. \n\nRequiem takes the form of a dramatic dialogue between the two choirs\, a ‘chorus of mourners’ and a ‘chorus of the faithful’ who debate the darkness of death and the affirmative light of salvation. Performed only a few times during Thompson’s lifetime\, Requiem was finally recorded in 2014 when David Hayes and The Philadelphia Singers made the performance and subsequent world premiere recording their mission. Both received rave reviews from the national and international press. Hayes notes “It is our fervent hope that Thompson’s Requiem\, a highly neglected masterpiece\, will finally earn a place in the repertory of choruses everywhere”. \n\nPlease join us for this special performance of the East Coast premiere of this rarely heard arrangement of Requiem.  \nDavid Hayes will host a pre-concert discussion at 7pm that is open to all ticket holders.
